THE BRINK!
or Nobody’s Ever Kissed Me Like That…
An avant-garde cabaret in a cafe at the edge of the world: A group of wayward performers is dying to reveal the transformative beauty of their shadow selves. Musical, irreverent, and full of wonder, The Brink! responds to the moment when the ground shifts too quickly and the world suddenly becomes unrecognizable. Drawing from deconstructed American pop songs and jazz standards, the poetry of Gertrude Stein, and Anne Carson's essay The Gender of Sound the ensemble slides past the raw edge of reason in this unfettered encounter with the stranger inside.
THE BRINK! or Nobody’s Ever Kissed Me Like That…was developed in 2017 with special support from the National Performance Network Creation Fund, Links Hall, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, Dartmouth College/VoxFest ,and the Cricoteka Centre in Krakow, Poland. THE BRINK! was presented in 2017 at the Cricoteka Center in Krakow and in 2018 at Links Hall, Chicago, the 8th International Theatre Olympics in Mumbai and New Delhi, and Steppenwolf Theatre’s 1700 stage.
